Petalinux compiles slowly - what to do?

Petalinux

PetaLinux build acceleration concept cover

Speed up with parallel builds, incremental builds, sstate cache cleanup, SSD, fewer packages.

Common Speed-ups

PetaLinux is Yocto-based, so the first full build is inherently slow, but daily iteration can be much faster: parallel builds, incremental builds via the sstate cache, keeping the project on an SSD, and trimming unnecessary packages.

First full build all sources · slow Incremental build reuse sstate cache · fast Parallel -j jobs use all CPU cores sstate cache skip recompiling SSD project dir less disk IO Trim packages cut unused modules

Avoid deleting the sstate directory casually — it is exactly what makes incremental builds fast; clean it only when the cache is corrupted or a full reset is intended.
