Resource Calculator
Fig: Estimating LUT / FF / BRAM / DSP from logic, memory and arithmetic design factors
The Resource Calculator estimates LUT, FF, BRAM and DSP usage from logic scale and interface requirements to support device selection.
How to use
- Estimation: logic scale (equivalent gates or RTL size) → LUT/FF estimate; storage and FIFOs → BRAM; multiply-accumulate and filters → DSP; interface count → I/O and transceivers.
- Headroom: add 20%–30% above estimates for placement, routing and debug margin.
Example estimate
| Resource | Scale reference | Estimated usage |
|---|---|---|
| LUT | Medium logic density | By logic scale |
| FF | Same order as LUT | By logic scale |
| BRAM | FIFOs/caches | By capacity |
| DSP | Filters/MACs | By operator count |
Resource Estimation Mapping
Estimation maps design factors to on-chip hardware: logic scale to LUT/FF, storage and FIFOs to BRAM, multiply-accumulate and filters to DSP, interface count to I/O and transceivers; add 20%–30% for place-and-route margin.
